6. What is special about Torchlight to you, from a composer’s perspective, and how has that influenced the music?

Well, it is hard to think of that in the past tense, since I still need to write the first interior and town music! Torchlight has had fun, tight gameplay since last winter, when it was just the Destroyer, skeletons and maybe 3 other monster types. That enough makes it special – there should be plenty of games for the PC which are easily accessible, with intuitive controls and fast action, not buggy and really more about the gameplay than an overblown cinematic or movie tie-in. Oddly enough, despite something like a half billion PCs or more potentially being on the planet in coming years, there aren’t.

Here’s a small excerpt from the post

The art is a very fun style. The players have exaggerated features and proportions while the environments have a great cartoon feel to them. They are all in full 3D, so don’t worry about the game looking cheesy because it is far from it. The character that I was playing at GDC meshed perfectly with the environment. It looked like they belonged together, unlike some games that I have seen in the past.

… and here are a few bullet points of info to give you an idea of the things Taylor covered in his writeup:

• A more accurate description of the art style (no offense to Eaiin) might be The Incredibles meets Dragon’s Lair
• “Fleshy” monsters bleed when hit and skeleton monsters have bone chips show up when hit
• You can push monster off of ledges to their demise
• The game pauses and zooms in on your character when you open both inventories at once
• Monsters can jump over balconeys to get to you
• No Tetris-style inventory in Torchlight
