Calling Torchlight Community: RGF Needs YOU!

The Short Version: We are doing a complete revamp of RGF, which will result in the entire site being remade. We need people to help test (and try to break) the new site, as well as people who want to give their input and help steer the direction RGF goes as we head into the MMO’s development period.

If you are interested, leave a comment in the thread for this post.

Staff Openings Updated

It’s been a while, but I’ve finally updated the hard-to-find Staff Openings page. We recently added two new members to our staff, and we are looking for two more. When the news is slow I tend to use the extra time to continue work on the site, and as usual I have big things planned for the site.

For now, we need another person to watch the news, and an artist to help with the next site layout (which I hope to have look a little more professional. As usual, all staff positions can be applied for by contacting me at webbstre@runicgamesfansite.com . The openings are not necessary limited to what you see on this page. If you have a skill, talent, idea, etc. that you would like to volunteer for the site, feel free to e-mail me and tell me what you have in mind.

The Openings:

General News Staff

Currently we have three people availabe for keeping the news updated: Sp3tsnaz, Trappski, and I (Webbstre). Sp3tsnaz and I are in the East Asian-Australian time zones, and Trappski is in Europe. We would like at least one person in North America who would be able to keep watch on the news. The only responsibility of this position is to watch the news and post about it.

Site Artist

We are planning on doing another layout change, this time switching parts of the site to an entirely new format. We need someone who can make website-style artwork (mainly backgrounds), who can handle colorful medieval/steampunk styles, and is used to making their artwork computer/web-friendly. If you feel you fit these qualifications then draw something from Torchlight in your own style (anything at all) and send it as a .jpg to webbstre@runicgamesfansite.com.

I’ll repeat one last thing: if you have a talent that you want to volunteer to the site, feel free to contact us! Everything here is a community effort, and you can’t spell community without both I and “You!”

Introducing Jerich, Mayo, and Torchleech!

It’s been a while since I have had the pleasure of doing this, but today I have the privilege of introducing to you the two latest RGF staff members! I’m really excited about having these two people on staff, because it will mean more content and updates for you, our loyal visitors.

First up we have Jerich! You may recognize him from the official Runic Games forums, where he often posts some rather lengthy analysis and idea pieces. He first caught the community’s eye when he managed to play Torchlight before its release at PAX, and wrote up a very long and informative preview of the game. Since getting all that attention he decided to turn his creative talents towards helpful posts in the forums, including analyses on Experience Sinks, Fairness in PvP, Why People Quit Playing the Single Player Torchlight, a proposal for an idea called Moonlighting, and a series on Who Plays and Pays for MMOs.

Starting this month, Jerich has volunteered to join us at RGF as our Column Writer. In his free time he’ll compose analyses and other articles for the site about Torchlight related topics, and we’ll release each as a series of manageable chunks for your enjoyment. Welcome, Jerich!

Next up is Mayo, but you may better recognize him and the mind behind the popular Torchleech program! We featured his program a few weeks ago as a recommended download for those of you who like trying out various mods, but had trouble with identifying mod conflicts. After some communication between Mayo and I on how to improve cooperation between Torchleech and our Torchlight Mods Database, we decided to pair up and do the most we can for both sides!

As of today, Torchleech is officially hosted at http://torchleech.runicgamesfansite.com. You won’t have to worry about Torchleech losing any functionality, because all of the links to his old server now redirect to an identical setup over here. If you were afraid that RGF might try to do some underhanded exclusivity agreement and future versions of Torchleech might lose mods that are not found in our own Mod Database, fear not! We love Torchleech’s functionality as much as you do, and have no plans to cut it down in any way.

We are also providing an area in the forums for all your Torchleech needs, so if you have any comments, suggestions, problems, etc., OR if you want to help with the development side of Torchleech, go post in the forums! Welcome Mayo and Torchleech!

Be sure to check back here for information about new versions and updates to Torchleech, and for new articles and analyses! Feel free to stop by the forums and say hello to our newest staff members:

The Best Mod Contest has ended!

This is just a quick announcement to say that our Mod Contest deadline has ended and that we are contacting the winners this week. We also have some good news! Thanks to all of the deals going on, the money we (and by we I mean Sp3tSnAz) set aside allows us to give out an extra copy of the game! Expect winners to be announced in the new year.

New RSS Feed: Follow us on Twitter!

I got another reminder in my e-mail box together that the RSS feed was malfunctioning again. After numerous attempts to find a Wordpress-based replacement, I gave in and switched us over to Twitter. If you’re not on Twitter, don’t worry, because you can still subscribe to the Twitter RSS Feed like any other RSS feed, and it will be updated with all the most recent posts and headlines from RGF. If you ARE on Twitter, you can check out my page and follow me from there. The options will both be listed on the left side of the mainpage from now, in case you can’t find the links. Oh, and if you are still subscribed to our old RSS Feed… well that will be permanently replaced in the future, so you should probably switch over now.

More chances to win free copies of Torchlight!

Gamer Limit has a very simple contest going on for a chance to win one of 5 free copies of Torchlight, for those of you who haven’t made the switch yet. All you have to do is go to their contest thread, register, and tell them what your favorite Action RPG of all time is. What are you waiting for? Go check it out! The contest ends a week from now on Wednesday.

Don’t forget, we still have our own contest going on here at RGF. The two ways to enter are to sign up and post a mod, or sign up and vote on mods. First prize for the best mod maker will be a copy of the game, a Runic Games T-shirt signed by all of the developers, and a special title in our forums to show off your skills with. Remember, voting is easy, so go get started!
