    Yes, you read that right, Torchlight 2 is coming to Linux... today! If you own the game on Steam you ALREADY have access to it for any Linux-based machines you may own. Check out the news post for official details:

    Today we're happy to launch Torchlight II with Linux support. Torchlight II for Linux is now available on Steam, free for those who already own the PC or Mac versions.Here are the details:

    • If I already bought Torchlight II through Steam, how do I get the Linux version?
      Steam users automatically get the PC, Mac, and Linux versions through Steam Play— if you had it before, it's already attached to your account! No additional steps are required other than to install it from your Steam game library.
    • What if I purchased Torchlight II from a site other than Steam, can I still get the Linux version?
      Yes! All Torchlight II keys purchased prior to February 2, 2015 from us or one of our partners (such as Perfect World or Daedalic) can be added to Steam.
    • Will my existing Torchlight II character save carry over?
      Yes! Character saves are compatible between PC, Mac, and Linux, and we support full Steam Cloud sync across platforms.
    • Can I play Torchlight II with my friends who are playing on Windows or Mac?
      Yes! Cross-platform multiplayer is supported!
    • What are the recommended system specs?
      • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (or similar, Debian-based distro)
      • x86/x86_64-compatible, 2.0GHz or better processor
      • 2GB System RAM
      • 1.7 GB hard drive space (subject to change)

    After a MERE 865 days of waiting, the Mac version of Torchlight 2 is finally being released! Sure, some of you may have thought it was vaporware. Others may have thought we were being lied to. Some even thought there was no such thing as unicorn bacon, but the truth has been revealed in this very self-teasing trailer:

    Hello all! A quick news update for you all today, which I apparently missed at the end of last week. On the official Runic Games Twitter Account a blurred out picture of a wall of artwork has appeared, apparently for whatever their new game is! Is it Torchlight? Is it an MMO? Or is it something new? Hopefully this first tease means news will be coming in soon as we start off our brand new year. Enjoy the pic!

    Hello everyone! Very glad to still be writing here today, and with good news no less! The IndieGoGo fundraiser closed today, at a hefty $830! That's $130 past our initial goal! I can't thank you all enough for making this possible, and hopefully by this time next year things will be jumping again with a new game from Runic (cross your fingers!) so that we don't need to do another fundraiser!

    Once the larger non-Paypal deposit makes it into my bank account and do the math on how much would be left over (after transaction/transfer fees) each month to cover the monthly bill for a year, but a rough estimate suggests around 6 bucks - low enough to be covered by the advertising with a little to spare (for upgrades/software renewal fees, etc)! I'm not sure if I'll return the contribution system with the giant counter on top for an amount that low, but I'll be sure to give it some thought and make a post when that time comes.

    Finally, for the winners of the Dark Alchemist statues, I've sent you messages to confirm your shipping details.

    Hey all! I've just noticed that there are a mere 66 hours left on our IndieGogo Campaign! We've actually surpassed our goal by 125 dollars (which is amazing!), but I wanted to point out that with the closing of the fundraiser will go your chance of getting one of the two very rare Dark Alchemist statues!

    They will go to the top two contributors to the campaign, which are currently priced at 176 dollars (to beat first place) and 141 dollars (which will beat second place, unless someone beats the first place contributor). These statues are supplied directly by Runic Games, and are not on sale ANYWHERE!

    Additionally, if we raise 99 dollars more before the campaign ends then advertisements will be turned off for ALL REGISTERED MEMBERS for an entire year, and the Monthly Contribution box will remain turned off for all that time as well. That's a pretty good deal for simply registering for free, and if you end up getting a Dark Alchemist statue in the process of making that a reality for everyone then so much the better!

    Apologies if the headline confuses anyone! Today's news tidbit follows former Runic Games Founders Travis Baldree and Erich Schaefer at their new two-man-only company Double Damage Games, as they reveal the first trailer for their new game Rebel Galaxy! There's a hefty article on Polygon, which is definitely worth checking out, as well as the Rebel Galaxy website. Here's the trailer for the game, as well as a quote from the website and a little follow up analysis:
    Double Damage Games was founded in 2014 by Travis Baldree and Erich Schaefer.


    Travis and Erich previously co-founded Runic Games, where we made Torchlight and Torchlight 2.


    Before that, Travis created Fate in 2005 and was project and engineering lead on Mythos, before it was torn out of our hands in the Flagship Studios debacle of 2008. Erich was co-creator and lead designer of Diablo and Diablo II, then went on to lead Hellgate: London (blah blah Flagship debacle).


    So we’ve been making big action-RPGs with big teams for a long, long time now.


    Double Damage and Rebel Galaxy is a huge, well-needed, change of pace. It’s just us two. Not to detract from the excellent art and music contractors we are working with, but DDG is just us. We wanted to make smaller, quicker games (though I doubt people will find Rebel Galaxy to be small), in a way not accountable to investors or suits, and not responsible for managing big teams. We’ve had great, exciting careers so far, but Double Damage is the funnest time we’ve developing a game in… forever? We hope you’ll enjoy playing it!
    Now for a little analysis: Some people may read into the quotes about why Travis and Erich left the company (specifically the part where they say they are in a rut and have been making the same type of game for years) to mean that they left Runic because Runic is still working on Torchlight or another ARPG. I'm going to take it from another angle: These guys are game developers, who've managed to be so successful that they ended up running a company AND doing development, when they'd rather just develop games. Compared to the pace of having to run ideas by a team of thirty or so people and check in with investors, with just two people and all the art and music contracted out they can develop games much quicker, which means more chances to make a variety of games and do more experimental things than they would otherwise have.

    BUT that's all my opinion, and in no way confirms or denies what Runic is working on next - because I don't know! Either way, I'm excited to have more games to play by the people I like making them. Head on over to Rebel Galaxy and support our favorite Runic alums!

    We've reached our initial goal! The site is saved, in less than two weeks no less! Super thanks to the ten people who have contributed so far, you've done a huge favor to me and to our community!


    There are still 48 days on the campaign however, and two more goals we could reach. I've updated the third goal to have an appropriate reward, but here's a reminder of what happens if we reach the remaining two goals:


    924 Dollars: All servers fees for the year are covered, meaning we will have an entire year where the site is ad-free for everyone, guests and registered users alike!

    1200 Dollars: All servers fees and software fees covered (including upgrades/updates/software license renewals and the cost of my Dropbox account covered (which is used to backup the site and all of the other files pertinent to website development). This results in a year free of ads for everyone, plus anyone who donates at least 5 dollars during the campaign will be Ad Free for Life!


    Additionally, the Dark Alchemist statues (which go to the two highest contributors) are currently at the following:
    First Place: 176 dollars or more.
    Second Place: 141 dollars or more.

    Thank you everyone, and I'm glad to say we'll be sticking around!
