[top]The Tale

Years ago, the Heroes of Torchlight saved the world from the ancient evil, Ordrak. Now someone has stolen the essence of his power, and is using it to upset the balance of the six elements. After witnessing the destruction wrought by this terrible artifact, you'll begin a quest to uncover the villain's identity and avert disaster.

The trail leads from the beleaguered Estherian Steppes, through the war-torn Mana Wastes, and the haunted ruins of an ancient dwarven civilization, before descending to a realm where no mortal has set foot for thousands of years—and where an even more terrible evil struggles to unleash itself into the world.

[top]The Four Oldest Civilizations

The Estherians, the Zeraphi, the Ezrohir, and the Dwarves.

Masters of the Elements, the Estherian's views on the use of Ember are more conserved than that of the other three races. *This led to the conflict between the Zeraphi and the Estherians.

The Zeraphi flourished after the dwarves faded away. Zeraphi are the masters of Alchemy. *Because of their mastery of alchemy arts, they devised a form of immortality through the medium of "soul suits." These soul suits contain their spirits after they die; thus, there are no living Zeraphi, just immortal spirits encased in Alchemic Armor called soul suits. The process of immortality involved the use of ember which alarmed the Estherians. Knowing the it was the misuse of ember that led the dwarves to ruin, the Estherians tried to warn the Zeraphi, but they ignored their warnings and the Estherians and the Zeraphi clashed.

The Ezrohir were once part of the Zeraphi race, but during the conflict between the Estherians and Zeraphi, the Estherians decided to withdraw from the conflict. However, The Zeraphi were divided on their next course of action, some wanted to declare a cease-fire and continue their research for immortality, and others wanted to pursue the retreating Estherians. As a result this created a cultural rift, the "hawks" becoming the Ember Fueled Ezrohir, and the "doves" finding safer ways to achieve immortality.

The dwarves were once a striving civilization, but their misuse of Ember according to the Estherians is what led their civilization to ruins.
