I was thinking about it in the other "Support Classes" topic we've got going, and I had an idea for something I'd like to see. So, assuming Runic's new game is an action MMORPG in the vein of Mythos, with each class having three distinct branches, what would you like to see?
I was thinking of something like a monk (terribly original, I know) that use staffs or spears. Being a monk, he'd have high natural armor and dodge, but he could only wear light armor. He'd be sort of a warrior/mage hybrid, in that he uses magic to increase his fighting ability. The unique feature would be a kill counter. For every monster he kills, the counter goes up a point. His skills are then based off of that, or use those points, but it'd have to cap at 100 or so.
The goal is to offer a support class, but he's not pure support. He's a hybrid and, based on the branch you go down, he can be a figther, a mage, or support. He still has to kill to give those support buffs though and, if you ignored that tree, you'd still have a formidable fighter
Combat oriented.There'd be a Spear and a Staff skill that boost your damage with those weapons based on your kill count. The higher you level the skills, the bigger the bonus. The rest would be standard attack skills. A sweep that knocks down opponents in front of you at the first level, and knocks down everyone around you in a 360 at the last. That sort of thing. Maybe some passive buff for attack speed and one for armor, too. Like the weapon buffs, these would also be based on your kill count
Support skills. Each of these skills costs kill points. For instance: You have a skill that boosts your attack speed by 10%, and it costs 20 kills. So, you run through the dungeon, kill 20 mobs, use it, then your counter's back to zero. And all of these buffs would effect teammates who are at least moderately close by. As you level up the skills, they cost more kills and give better buffs. And there'd be everything from big boosts to health regen, increased dodge, increased damage, fire damage added to weapons... that sort of thing. The trade-off is that, by spending those points, you lessen the buffs offered by the first branch. So, while combat is still viable (and necessary), you're not as potent of a warrior if you're using support skills.
Magic skills. It'd be a combination of offensive and defensive. And everything here would be based purely off magic, no kill counter effects. Maybe a shield that absorbs damage, a big (but temporary) boost to dodge, a teleport. As for attacks, the class lacks a minion so far, so maybe you can conjure up a spirit clone of yourself to temporarily lay down some damage and absorb attacks. A turn-away undead skill, some various damage-inducing spells... And then a passive skill for mana regen, to top things off.
