    Hi-Res Texture Pack

    Small request. (maybe big lol)

The game was designed to run on all systems including low end computers.
Which means all the textures and poly are dumb down. (assuming)

So my question is .. will the highend pc fans get some kind of high resolution texture pack after the initial release of torchlight? or perhaps it's already available via the option screen?

Sacred 2 had this bonus, although it was only available through purchasing the collector's edition.

That would be wonderful, although the cartoony style of the game probably means that low-res textures won't be too noticeably different from their high-res counterparts.

We are still talking about what we'll ship as the base. But if there's hi-res art that is, for some reason, not included in the base delivery, we'll find a way to give it to you.

We've got a GeForce2 min req, which, while still quite low, is definitely higher than the 'Voodoo Banshee' support we included in Fate :P Acceptable download sizes for casual downloads have increased to the ~100MB range as well ( you'll even see a lot of find-the-object games in this range ) as opposed to the ~20MB range that they used to be when Fate was released. So we can probably afford to go a little crazy!

On a similar topic, would it be possible for someone to mod the game with high textures and more detailed models and basically raise the requirement specs to run the game with that mod?

you guys are really great ... i mean it

    @Webbstre

    that's an interesting question.
in fate the game ui / fonts / icons was optimized @ 800x600 resolution. ( the reason i only play in window mode).
However, if you go higher in resolution the art textures definitely becomes noticeably better. So whether or not torchlight textures will be locked on 128x128 png .. im not sure.

    *128x128 is just an example

    *edit*

in fate there's no restrictions on the amount of polygons in a mesh or how large the texture map can be, of course this will decrease performance. The loading time in fate was effected by collision objects in the scene, so you have to watch out for those. I wonder if torchlight act the same about the way collision are calculated on loading.

    Re: Hi-Res Texture Pack

You can increase the texture resolution without any issues - for UI or models.
The external layout files for the textures specify a basis resolution (1024x768, for instance ) for the textures used for UI, so you can upsample the UI and change the basis resolution.
Heck, you could add shader support with the material files and require fancy shaders if you WANTED to.

You can replace all the models as well, with higher polycounts, or different meshes altogether.

So I guess that means that we can use Ogre material files, CEGUI xml files and Ogre models in Torchlight? Sweet.

If this is the case then it might interest people to look at www.ogre3d.org and www.cegui.org.uk which has information about these files.

Well... If it's XML it shouldn't bee too hard to figure out. Of course doing advanced stuff always takes a bit of extra learning.
