[BLOG]: The Challenges of Gaming Through my Eyes.

This is a blog post. To read the original post, please click here »

Many of the genres I enjoy are tiresome tasks that many would just give up on after a few months.* One of my favorite genres, First Person Shooters, requires synchronized use of your hands, your eyes, and your cognitive skills.* Playing such a genre for me is heavily reliate on my eyes, and my cognitive skills.* Why?* Can you guess it? NO?* Okay I'll tell you, I play a special technique call the 1 and 1 technique, what?* I play with 1 hand and most of the time 1 finger, why?* Because I was born with a messed up left hand, it's double jointed, it has funk rotation, and it's weak.* Wait!!! How did you play FPSs* if you used 1 and 1 technique, you wouldn't be able to use WASD or go lefty style and use upDownLeftRight.* Simple I made people whine: "Camper!".* Eyes and Strategy were my tools, I would never win in a fire fight with a two hander before the emergence of Three Button Mice.* All I could do was press W and Aim, no strafe, limited crouch and jump, and just think.* Remember the famous AWP and Desert Eagle Combo where you use the Cross-hair from the DE then quickly switch to the AWP for a Zoom free shot.* I can't do it.* Instead I relied on stealth and countering.* Then came the days of the Three Button Mouse.

Ahhh, the 3 button mouse, what a relief at last, because of it I could finally STRAFE!!!!.* How!?* Middle Button: Strafe Left, Right Button: Strafe Right.* Woohoo I can finally have a chance in a fire fight...Doh, I still suck in a fire fight, I still had to let go of the mouse to press the number keys to switch weapon fast.* And to those FPSs that dont allow me to bind Strafes onto the mouse, **** you.

One more genre and I'll stop my rant, Fighting Games, ahh another special technique I like to call the Funky hand technique.* Simply grasp the controller with your messed up hand, adjust your working hand so the index is on the dpad or analog stick, and you thumb is on the 4 face buttons.* How to use the Shoulder buttons?* place your ring finger on the R side, and ready your middle finger for the L side.* It took years, yes years for me to master doing a backwards Shoryuken(Rising Uppercut), months to do Hadokens in succession.* Oh don't get me started on those EX Cancel Ultra Combos in SF4...(BTW if you have played Omnifas in 360 version of SF4, thats my brother).* I can't believe I actually won a few times in the Arcade in previous iterations.* Bad Rotation+Joystick=How the hell you lose to me LOL.

Thats just an insight into gaming with 1 1/2 hands :P.* This is why I enjoy games like Mythos, Torchlight, they are simple enjoy that I can play with my right only.

    Now thats a determined gamer.

    Just a thought though...
Wouldn't it be easier to use the mouse with your bad hand to get the most fingers on the keyboard?

Bad grip, can't press the buttons and the rotation messes up aim. I tried, tested it with a 1 foot upclose headshot, bang bang, I hit the crate 4 feet to your left. That and I've been playing like this for so long that Updownleftright or 8456(numpad) or WASD with my right just doesn't feel right.

Ah yea. Thought it might be about the grip there.
But you should be a master at Turn-based strategy then
