    Custom Classes Crash Game

    I'm new to modding Torchlight, but after going through all the readme's and FAQs about downloading custom classes, I still cannot get them to work.
    Most classes (such as Lady Knight and most every class in Jarcho's Class Compilation V1.21), once added to the mod folder, usually just crash my game. It shows a black screen for a few minutes and then crashes. I have no other mods and I've tried deleting all the files specified in different readme's, such as the massfiles, masterresourceunits, and the mods.dat files.

    One or two classes don't crash the game, but they don't show up when I go to create a new character. Only the three normal characters are there.

    Any help would be amazing. I've spent the past few hours googling and looking through torchlight forums for help, but it seems as though no one else is having this problem.

    Is the game actually crashing or just not responding. If it's not responding then the game should still be working, it just takes several minuets as the game has to encode and compile all the data. During this time, torchlight won't "talk to" the OS so it will show up as not responding.

    If it is actually crashing, what (if any) error message is popping up, what OS are you using, do other mods give you similar problems, last couple of lines in the ogre.log.

    It is actually crashing. The window comes up and sits there for a couple minutes, then it crashes and I'm asked to send a report. I'm running on a 10.6 mac. No error or anything. I only tried the Better Balanced Sale Prices mod and that works fine.

    I did try downloading the Valkyrie II class after I posted and that seemed to work fine at first-- game loaded, no crash, and there was a spot for the Valkyrie when I went to start a new character. There was no picture for it, but when I hovered over the spot where the picture would be, it showed the name. When I clicked on it, the application crashed again before the character could load. That was the best attempt I had with the custom classes.

    Alright, you're going to have to do some work.
    1. Read the whole post
    2. Download one of the class mods and make sure it's the only mod installed
    3. Run the game, if it works and you can play the class, your done
    4. Remove the UI folder from the mod (make sure it isn't in the mod folder at all)
    5. Repeat step 3
    6. If it works put the charactercreate.layout back to it's appropriate place
    7. If not repeat steps 4-5 systematically going through the folders until you find the one(s) that don't work


    I'm suspecting the .imageset files in the UI folder are crashing the game as that is a common thing on the mac version of Torchlight. If they are you'll have to play the new classes without any custom artwork, but at least you'll be able to play them.

    Edit: Webbster's following post is quite possible as well, you could just delete the save folder contents over loading the game though, unless their important.

    Or load the mod, if the game loads you need to either delete the custom class, or load a vanilla class before turning off the game. The game always needs the latest character (and its pets/items/location) to have all the files required available, and if those files belong to a mod that no longer exists then it crashes.
