    Torchlight 2 Reskin Megapack

Hey guys, I've been thinking about how cool it would be to make a skin pack that could become the "standard" for re-skinned weapons and armor. The idea would be that the new skins don't replace, but coexist with other skins, including the originals. I'm pretty sure that would require making new item that can have random stats put on it for each new skin. The problem, is I'm not the most savvy when it comes to making items in TorchEd. That's where I was hoping others could come in. My idea, is that all of the great artists out there can all come together to create these skins. Then someone else, who can make separate, new items for each skin would do so with the skins made by others. Then, it's all compiled into a single mod, that can be "updated" on a steady basis.

Anybody who wants to contribute would be able to. If you're interested, PM me either here, or on the Runic forums. If you know how to go about adding items to the game that would coexist with other random weapons, I'd need your help too.

Thanks, and hopefully this turns into something cool.

Hi Hawkn! I'd be happy to contribute to your project I may not be much help in the item-creation area, but I sure can contribute some skins!

Well, we'll have to wait for the game itself, but once we have it, it would be nice to have a group already assembled. I may post this on the Runic forums.

It would be pretty cool to have a dozen or so re-colored variants of all the base armors from the game, would add another level of customization to your character. I think you'd have to mess around with the item rarities though to make sure you aren't finding nothing but recolored item drops all the time though.

It would be awesome if the team could handle to create dyers for Torchlight 2, for the existing items and the new ones. That would add a lot of randomization und uniqueness to the game, without having too much work to do.

Actually, it would do the opposite. People asked about dye systems before, and we were told that making all the items in the game work with a coloring system and making them look good would take a lot of work and time that could go into just making more items instead. :P Maybe for the MMO.

Well, just recoloring items wouldn't take that much time. Making them look really good could take more time, I have to agree with that Anyway, I still think that recoloring would take less time than creating new items, especially if you already have a broad base of items. Things could be different if the number of different items is low.

Solution for the problem: Make a lot of new items and a dye system (if we got a decent number of people willing to help, it should be possible). Beside all that, it is also a question of game mechanics. Adding 10 types of color for every item is not very helpful if we are not able to create a mechanic to switch colors, but it should definitely work with cubing, resp. transmuting items.

    Re: Torchlight 2 Reskin Megapack

Wasn't one of the big pluses in TL2 that it would support mods in multiplayer? Well, re-textures are mods; so when the game comes out and the items are available, we could just make re-tex mods for all the items. Choosing a re-tex mod becomes the equivalent of applying a dye-pack.

Is it that simple, or am I totally missing something?

The problem is that everyone you play with would have to have the same dye mods installed to play together.
