Exactly, C:\Program Files\ecc is where the PAK is located. Aside from this, I really don't know what to do after the editor is launched: there is just some kind of 3D grid and a plenty of bars and buttons .

Did it do the thing where it unpacks the file for a very long time after start-up?

Ok, go to the View menu and click "Open Media Folder" and that will take you to the folder where everything is extracted to. It'll take some getting used to for the organization, but you will start to find little pieces of things that go on outfits, or in tileset textures, or even in spell effects. It's been years since I really dug into the files, and most of my memories of weird symbols are probably in Torchlight 1, but you'll still be able to find some interesting stuff with some patience. Pay attention to file names when you find something to give you a hint as to what it is for or where it was used. Also, you'll need a dds file opening program. Windows 10 suggested a free app for me to use that worked just fine.
