Uploading Mods

By Webbstre

There are technically three ways to upload a mod. This page explains the how and the why for each method.

#1 - Create Content > File Upload (menu)
OR Upload A Mod! (menu)

File Uploads are the main way members are going to upload mods. This is the best place to make sure your mod can be found via search, by adding Tags and a description of what the mod is and what it does. Any content posted in this manner is in what is called a File Node.

#2 - File Attachments

Blogs, Pages, and Projects all have the option to add File Attachments when posting new content. These files are stored and have File Nodes automatically created for them. While this is useful when posting screenshots or other images, it can be inconvenient if you want your mod file to get attention. You have the option to either upload via File Attachment and then manually edit tags and descriptions onto the File Node, or to create the File Node manually (as mentioned in #1 above), and then choosing File Attachments and putting in the file name.

#3 - FTP Upload

We realize here at RGF that 15 megs is not a very big size when talking about gaming mods. However, I (Webbstre) am paying for everyone on the site out of my own pocket, and whenever possible I do my best to keep things inexpensive. When uploading files via php, the entire file must be built in the system's memory before being saved to its final location. My way of getting around this is to keep the general upload size quite low (15 megs at max, which must be uploaded within 12 minutes, or at at least a 25 kb/sec speed for a 15 megabyte file), and creating special FTP accounts for people who want to take on bigger projects. Uploading via an FTP program, such as torchlightmods@runicgamesfansite.com, and request an FTP username and folder be created for your use. Someone on the site will respond to you as soon as possible.

***Important Note***

Any person uploading non-mod related materials, or anything that breaks the rules, will either be warned and have the content removed, or will have all uploading privileges revoked, permanently. This is within a common sense guideline of course, and a quick look at the rules will explain what is meant by this.
