Ocular Golem Mod - Replaces the Nether Imps

The Ocular Golem Mod replaces the Nether Imp with a more mechanical horde summon. Minor fix to the spelling.

Update - reduced damage, added supplemental file to revert the mechanical crawler.

Major Update - Summons the correct number of Ocular Golems.

One possible change

I checked this out and like it very much as it fits the spirit of the Alchemist much better. I'd like to suggest a minor improvement (other than fleshing out the skill description). If possible to make the damage the oculars deal fire-based instead of lightning based. The problem with lightning-based damage is that when it crits, it makes splash damage with a very heavy effect. Having a high crit on your char and 6 of these buggers firing, means you can't really see what's going on in the screen anymore. Making the crit less flashy will seriously help.

Also I think the oculars are far stronger than the imps since they can fire from far away rather than melee. This means firing and focusing fire more easily, as well as being able to fire in narrow places (such as bridges). While the lowered damage helps somewhat, I think a furher nerf is needed, at least to counter the lacking need for fresh corpses (which makes the imps difficult to use during boss fights). I would suggest increased casting time and possibly more mana used.

Its not easy to balance the golems I think. I mean, they don't require a corpse, and they can fire long-range. To counter these huge bonuses, an increased spell timer and casting cost would be key.

This is already one of my favourite mods, it makes playing Alchemist feel even more steampunk. Now all I need is a robotic dog and I'm permanently set. :V

As I think someone said before, the skill description is a little "too" lacking, I don't know what's happening, if anything at all, when upgrading them. If that's fixed, I have no other complaints. Nice job, either way. c:

Still have nether imps :(

Your mod sounds like it will be very cool, if I can get it working on my pc.

I've installed the mod per instructions and all of my icons and the spell description changed over fine. I can even summon imps without using corpses. The problem is that they are the same old imps, and not the little laser toting crawlers I was hoping for.

Any idea where the hiccup might be?

Great mod.

Hi Gorrim, great mod. I love the little laser totting buggers. :)

I have one question. What's the o-golems' skill progression like? Do they get improved hp and damage like the imps? The skill description is a little lacking.

Also, is there some special synergy with Tinkertoys? I'd like to use the Occulars but keep the vanilla Alchemical Golem.
